In sepia tones, the film moves back and forth among three periods in Robert Tucker's life: he& #39;s a n old man, near d eath, in a nur sing home at C hristmas time ; he&# 39;s in mi ddle age caring for his cheer ful but dying m other; he 's a lad at Catholi c school, pr acticing his catechism, going to confess ion for th e first t ime, re ceiving the Euc harist, surrounded by the sing ing of a childr en's ch oir.
