All in all this movie c annot be c onsidered less than exce llent. S o yes, ma ybe some of the scen es don&am p;#39;t resul t quite the way th ey should, but most of them do. Partic ularly the scene fr om the ca rnival a t the be ginning of t he movi e and th e last scene bring y ou to the v erge of tea rs. Yes it also many element s of a catho lic moral (Ro sario liv es in gu ilt, her way o f paying he r sins is by means o f sacrifice) , but we have to consider the movie w as rele ased in 1934 and the Mexic an society of t he time had th ose value s dictati ng our l ives and, weat her we tak e this into con sideration or not, I think the the plot i s really r eally tough an d the theme very st rong. Maybe n owadays we have many movies with pl ots that are twice or thr ice as tou gh, but I thin k this is still a great, grea t movie and ha s no soap op era can never even remo tely comp are with it .
